Village Voices public art installation stands in Surry Hills as a testament to the turn-key service offered by Singleton Moore Signs.
The project is the brain-child of Sydney-based artist Astra Howard who “aims to capture and then communicate diverse stories from and about Surry Hill.”
Singleton Moore Signs worked with the artist and City of Sydney Council to design, manufacture, and install a 3-metre high, 5-metre wide secured letter frame which houses over 400 letters. The artist takes the letters from the glass-topped storage boxes and inserts into the illuminated tracks to showcase her latest contribution to the public space.
Village Voices affirms Singleton Moore Signs’ identity as a true full-service signage company. The project involved creative and industrial design, several rounds of prototyping, laser cut lettering and componentry, steel and aluminium folding, fabrication, and assembly – all of which was completed in-house.
The project also involved liaison with engineers, consultation with and obtaining permits from several departments at City of Sydney Council, installation and connection of electrical components to mains, and civil works, including a last-minute change to the footings to accommodate unforeseen site conditions.
We were so pleased to partner with Astra on this project which engaged all conceivable facets of our creative and technical capabilities.
